James Rebhorn

James Robert Rebhorn ( born September 1, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † March 21, 2014 in South Orange, New Jersey ) was an American actor, who has worked in over 100 television series, films and plays.

Life

A few years after his birth his family moved to Anderson, Indiana. Rebhorn studied in Ohio political science. After graduating in 1970 he went to New York City where he attended Columbia University School of the Arts. He then worked at various theaters. In the 1980s, he starred in the TV soap opera Guiding Light, The Doctors, and Search for Tomorrow and others.

Rebhorn often played authority figures, such as lawyers, politicians, doctors and soldiers, often unsympathetic types and wicked step- fathers or fathers. In the series Law & Order, he embodied, inter alia, a serial killer.

In the science fiction film Independence Day, he played the Secretary of Defense Nimzicki and in the Highsmith adaptation The Talented Mr. Ripley a entrepreneurs. His comedic talent he showed in the 2000 comedy film My bride, her father and I with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro as Dr. Larry Banks.

Rebhorn died aged 65 at his home in South Orange, New Jersey, to skin cancer, which was diagnosed in 1992 with him.
