James Rollins

James Rollins, a pseudonym of James Paul Czajkowski ( born 1961 in Chicago ) is an American veterinarian and writer. He is best known for adventure thriller as Sub Terra, Operation Amazon or Arctic mission. He also published as James Clemens fantasy novels.

Life

After Rollins had graduated from the University of Missouri an undergraduate degree in evolutionary biology, he graduated in 1985, his education with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. He then moved to El Dorado County in California and opened a practice there.

Besides, he tried to write short stories, but of which he could not publish through a publishing house. So he decided to write a novel. He decided to write five days a week, at least three pages double-spaced and placed so within less than a year his first book finished. After the manuscript had been accepted to Sub Terra after 49 failures from the fiftieth publisher, it was released in 1999 as the first work under the pseudonym James Rollins.

However, shortly before the novel came Wit'ch Fire in the stores, which he was able to publish as James Clemens, Terry Brooks. Brooks was one of the judges at the Maui Writers' Conference contest been for which Rollins filed a short unfinished manuscript.

For the next 10 years, Rollins continued to work in his practice and wrote at least one book a year. It was only when in 2009 his work had risen The flame characters at No. 2 on the bestseller list of the New York Times, he sold his practice.

Influences

Even as a boy Rollins was fascinated by the stories of Howard Carter and his discovery of the grave of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh, King Tutankhamun. This story inspired him to write the novel Excavation. It's about an archaeologist Henry Coklin and his nephew Sam discover a lost Inca city in the Andes. In this city you can find a treasure, but also a terrible curse.

The reading of popular authors such as Edgar Rice Burroughs, Jules Verne or HG Wells helped that he himself published contemporary novels, filled with magic, horror effects and monsters.
