James Stansfeld

James Stanfield ( born October 5, 1820 Halifax, England; † February 17th 1898 in Rotherfield, Sussex ) was a British politician.

James Stanfield studied at University College London and in 1849 Barrister. He joined in 1859 for his native town to the House, where he joined the left wing of the Liberal Party joined. In 1863 he was appointed Civil Lord of the Admiralty, but resigned in 1864 again left the government in which his close relationship with Giuseppe Mazzini gave offense. Nevertheless, could the following liberal governments in the influence he had in the House, not help to reinstate him in their midst.

Stanfield was Under Secretary of State under Prime Minister John Russell from February to June 1866 and Lord of the Admiralty under William Ewart Gladstone from December 1868 to October 1869 and Secretary of the Treasury under the same until March, 1871.

Then he received the Bureau of Arms Office and in August of the same year, the Bureau of the newly established Local Government Board. In 1874 he resigned with Gladstone.

When the formation of the liberal ministry in the spring of 1880, Stansfield was ignored.
