James Strachey

James Beaumont " Jembeau " Strachey ( born September 26, 1887 in London, † April 25, 1967 in High Wycombe ) was an English psychoanalyst. He was the younger brother of Lytton Strachey and has become known to English mainly through the translation of the complete works of Sigmund Freud.

Strachey was the youngest of ten children. He studied medicine at Cambridge, where he graduated and friendship with Rupert Brooke. 1920 married Alix Strachey Sargant Florence ( 1892-1973 ). James Strachey went to Sigmund Freud in analysis, while Alix was analyzed by Karl Abraham in Berlin. One of James' later Lehranalysanden in England was the pediatrician Donald W. Winnicott. He was a friend of John Maynard Keynes.
