James V. McClintic

James Vernon McClintic (* September 8, 1878 in Bremond, Texas, † April 22, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1915 and 1935 he represented the seventh election district of the state of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1880 James McClintic moved with his parents in the village Groesbeck in Limestone County, Texas. There he attended the public schools. Later he studied at the add- Run University in Fort Worth, from which the present-day Texas Christian University emerged. In 1901 he was employed at a textile company in St. Louis, where he worked as a traveling salesman. He then moved to the Oklahoma Territory, where he was active in the town of Snyder in the trade. He also managed a farm in Texas County.

Politically McClintic was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1908 he was town clerk of the town of Snyder in Kiowa County. In 1909, he was district administrator in this district ( county clerk ). 1911 McClintic was elected to the House of Representatives from Oklahoma; 1913-1914 he was a member of the State Senate.

1914 McClintic was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he became the successor of Joseph Bryan Thompson on March 4, 1915. After he was re-elected in each of the nine subsequent elections, he was able to complete up to January 3, 1935 a total of ten legislative periods in Congress. He was from 1917 to 1919 in the 65th Congress Chairman of the Committee for the control of expenditure on public buildings. During his time in Washington, D.C. McClintic studied at Georgetown University law. In 1928 he was admitted to the bar. In 1934, he was not nominated by his party for another term in Congress.

After his retirement from the House of Representatives James McClintic worked 1935-1940 on the staff of the Governor of Oklahoma. After the death of Sam C. Massingale, who in 1935 became his successor in Congress, to McClintic applied in 1941 unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the overdue election. In the years 1940 and 1941 McClintic worked for the traffic department of the federal capital, Washington, from 1941 to 1944, he worked in the Ministry of Interior. He then worked as a lawyer. James McClintic died on April 22, 1948 during a train near Chicago.
