James Vibert

James Vibert ( born August 15, 1872 in Carouge, † May 2, 1942 in Plan- les- Ouates ) was a Swiss sculptor.

Life

Vibert learned the trade of Gürtler in the French city of Lyon. Then he moved in 1891 to Paris. There he joined Auguste Rodin, who made ​​him familiar with the symbolism of the visual arts.

As Vibert 1903 returned to Switzerland, he was appointed professor at the École des Beaux -Arts in Geneva; this activity he held until 1935. From 1906 to 1908 and from 1923 to 1926 he was a member of the Swiss Federal Art Commission. In 1914 he was allowed after the first draft had been rejected, erect a statue in the domed hall of the Parliament Building. This is called the three confederates.

James Vibert was portrayed twice by Ferdinand Hodler, for the first time in 1907 and the second time in 1915.
