James Virgili

James Virgili ( born July 8, 1992, Newcastle, NSW) is an Australian football player at the position of a striker. He currently plays for the Newcastle United Jets in the top division in Australian football, the A-League. He was already at the age of 16 years, his professional league debut.

Career

Youth and Amateur Football

Virgili began his active career as a football player in 1998 at South Wallsend, an amateur football club from Wallend in New South Wales. There he played for several years and came later to the St. Francis Xavier College in Canberra. After time at the College followed in 2007, a change to the New South Wales Institute of Sport, which was opened in 1996 and is located in the Sydney Olympic Park. After a year at the Institute moved Chilli, as he was nicknamed, 2008 at the youth team of the A- League clubs Newcastle Jets, where he plays since then.

Club career

Virgilis professional career began on January 4, 2009, when he appeared as a substitute in the 0-3 defeat against Wellington Phoenix on matchday 18 of the current season. If used just 16 years and 180 days old, Virgili is the youngest player ever shown for use in an A-League match. He took over from his team-mates Ben Kantarovski, who was 16 years and 208 days old when his pro debut on August 15, 2008. In December 2011, this record from the 15 -year-old Teeboy Kamara was significantly undercut.

Internationally

Virgili took part in 2009 with an Australian U-18 football tournament selection at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival, scoring two goals in three games. In November 2009 he took part in the successful qualification for the U-19 Asia Cup 2010 with the Australian U -20 team.
