James W. Grant

James William Grant ( born September 21, 1943 in Lake City, Florida) is an American politician. Between 1987 and 1991 he represented the state of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Grant visited until 1960, the Taylor County High School in Perry. Then he studied until 1963 at the Florida State University in Tallahassee, and later at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He then worked as a businessman. He worked among others in the banking industry.

Politically Grant was first a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1982 and 1984 he sat in the Senate from Florida. In the congressional elections of 1986 he was in the second electoral district of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Don Fuqua on January 3, 1987. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1991, two legislative sessions. On 21 February 1989, he joined the Republican Party. In 1990 he was defeated as their candidate the Democrats Pete Peterson. Two years later, Grant ran unsuccessfully against incumbent Bob Graham for the U.S. Senate.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives Grant founded the consulting firm MK Meridian Inc., whose chairman he is today. This company is trying to help in settling international conflicts. He was also vice president of a global chemical company in Ukraine. Grant is married and the father of four children.
