James Ward (tennis)

James Ward (born 9 February 1987 in London ) is a British tennis player.

Life and career

2006-2007: Beginnings

His father Jim is a taxi driver, his mother's name is Tina, his sister Lauren. Ward began playing at the age of eleven years of tennis. In 2006 he became a professional. The next year he was able to reach the semifinals in two Futures tournaments and participated in qualifying for Wimbledon.

2008: ATP debut

In June 2008, he was able to qualify in Queens for the first time for an ATP tournament, but lost in the first round against Marat Safin won despite the first set. Right after he failed to qualify for an ATP tournament in Nottingham again. But this time it was in the first round already closing. In the rest of the year he could win two Futures tournaments and also recorded smaller success on the Challenger Tour.

2009: First Challenger titles and Grand Slam debut

In May 2009, he was able to gain from the qualification out the Challenger tournament in Sarasota. As early as 2008 he was able to qualify again for the Turner in Queens and retired again in the first round. At the following tournament in Eastbourne, he won against Victor Crivoi he beat in straight sets, after his first victory on the ATP Tour. At Wimbledon, he joined thanks to a wildcard for the first time in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament at, but lost in three sets to smooth Fernando Verdasco in the first round.

2010-2011: Establishment on the ATP Challenger Tour and the first semi-final

The year 2010 was a lean year for Ward. His best results on the Challenger Tour were a quarter-final in Vancouver, and a semi-final in Loughborough. But with his partner Jamie Baker he could win the doubles competition at the Challenger tournament in Savannah.

At the beginning of 2011 he was qualified again for an ATP tournament in Sydney, left there but in straight sets against Florian Mayer. The qualifications of the Grand Slams in Melbourne and Paris, he left each in the first round. In the warm-up tournament for Wimbledon at London's Queen's Club, he celebrated his greatest success on the ATP Tour when he moved there to the semifinals and get hit on the road, among other Stanislas Wawrinka and Sam Querrey. In August of that year he won his second Challenger title in Vancouver. In doubles, he could reach 2011, two Challenger finals.
