James Wolfensohn

James David "Jim" Wolfensohn ( born December 1, 1933, Sydney ) from 1995 to 2005, the ninth president of the World Bank.

The Australian-born and now naturalized American of German-Jewish descent is a lawyer and banker and worked in international stock markets and banking business since 1963. He holds degrees in Sydney and at Harvard University. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 he was a member of the Australian Olympic Fencing Team.

On 1 June 1995, he became president of the World Bank. On September 27, 1999 began his second term of office, where he was unanimously re- appointed by the Executive Board of the World Bank. He was the third president, which ableistete a second term at the World Bank. He was succeeded by June 1, 2005 Paul Wolfowitz.
