Jamestown is a city in Chautauqua County in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of New York, with 31,146 inhabitants ( 2010). The metropolitan area has a size of 23.5 km ².

Until the abolition of slavery in the United States Jamestown was an important station of the Underground Railroad, many escaped slaves were successfully launched from the local congregation of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church on Lake Erie to Canada in safety. The City of Jamestown was founded in 1886. The city is surrounded by the municipality of Ellicott at the southern tip of Chautauqua Lake.
