Jamie Burnett

Jamie Burnett (born 16 September 1975) is a professional snooker player from Hamilton in Scotland.

Career

His greatest successes in tournaments of the snooker main tour were reaching the finals at the Shanghai Masters in 2010 and the quarterfinals at the German Open in 1997 and the Grand Prix the following year.

He gained notoriety during the qualifying rounds for the UK Championship in 2004 in the second round against Leo Fernandez, as he was the first player in a professional match ever managed a 148er -break. Normally, 147 is the highest score that can be achieved in a break, which is also referred as the maximum break. However, Burnett achieved a 148er series, because it came after a foul by Fernandez at the table and a free throw awarded, through which one can achieve theoretically up to 155 points in a break.

Burnett chose the brown ball as a replacement Red, punched then again the brown ball and eventually all 15 red balls with a blue, two pink rose and twelve blacks. Then he made with the punch of color the historical 148er -break completely. Due to the fact that this break came in the qualifying rounds, Burnett received no premium for the highest break, as is common in tournaments.

In qualifying for the Grand Prix 2007 Jamie Burnett finally managed a " regular " Maximum Break of 147 points.

His biggest career success had the bulkheads in the Shanghai Masters 2010. Having survived two qualifying rounds and the wildcard round, he benefited from the cancellation of the World Ranking Second Ronnie O'Sullivan and pulled directly into Round 2. Then he sat down against three in the rankings better ranked player through and won it convincingly against Andrew Higginson 5-0 and Jamie Cope 6-1. Only in the final he was beaten with 7:10 Ali Carter.
