Jamie Heward

Jamie Heward ( born March 30, 1971 in Regina, Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who was most recently with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League contract. Currently, he is a so-called Unrestricted Free Agent.

Career

Jamie Heward began his career as a hockey player with the Regina Pats, where he played in the Western Hockey League from 1987 to 1991. During this time he was selected in the first round during the NHL Entry Draft in 1989 when a total of 16 players from the Pittsburgh Penguins, for whom he never played. First, the Canadians stood from 1991 to 1994 a total of three years in the International Hockey League for the Muskegon Lumberjacks and the Cleveland Lumberjacks on the ice. After the season was 1994/95, in the Heward accrued for Team Canada, the defender was taken as a free agent by the Toronto Maple Leafs under contract, for which he spent two years running.

On 31 July 1997 as a free agent Heward was committed by the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League, with whom he won the Calder Cup at the end of the season. After a season Heward again left the Phantoms and signed a contract with the Nashville Predators of the NHL, where he also played one season, as then at the New York Islanders. From 2000 to 2002 Heward belonged to the squad of the Columbus Blue Jackets, while he played from 2002 to 2005 depending on a season long in the Swiss National League A in HC Servette Genève, the ZSC Lions and SCL Tigers.

After his time in Switzerland Heward returned in the summer of 2005 in the NHL, where he received a contract with the Washington Capitals, where he was active in the following two seasons. However, the 2006/07 season he finished with the Los Angeles Kings. Before the following season the defender moved for the second time in his career to Europe, where he stood for the SKA St. Petersburg of the Russian Super League on the ice. After a season of Canadians returned to the NHL, where he signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning who cast him immediately before the end of the exchange period to the Toronto Maple Leafs, as the financially troubled club was able to save his remaining salary until June.

Internationally

For the Canadian national Heward took part in the World Championships in 1995, 2003 and 2004. He won two gold medals and one bronze.
