Jamnagar ( Gujarati: જામનગર, Jāmanagar; earlier Nawanagar ) is the capital of the district in the western state of Gujarat in India. The city was especially developed in the 1920s by Maharaja KS Ranjitsinhji, then it was under the name Nawanagar capital of the princely state of the same. Today it has about 530,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ).

Jamnagar is located in the south of the Gulf of Kutch and has risen in recent times become a major industrial center. Responsible for this is, among other things, the decision of Reliance Industries ( RIL), India's largest private company, there to build the world's largest refinery. By 2008, the refinery processed 660,000 barrels a day, down to world number three. The launch of an expansion to 580,000 barrels fell on 1 December 2005, the plans called for before the start of operation of the extension for the December 2008. In 2010, the refinery was the largest in the world. Because of the global economic crisis, the construction of a cracker to produce ethylene and propylene was delayed, however, completed until the year 2014. Furthermore, the construction of a coal gasification plant, as well as facilities for the gasification of liquefied natural gas ( LNG ) are provided as supplements.

For the employment of farmers, where land was bought for the industrial complex of the plant, Reliance Industries has a mango plantation with invested more than 100,000 trees in 2010, which will be expanded to 150,000 trees.

The Jamnagar site also benefits from its location in a special economic zone with appropriate tax and customs relief for Reliance Industries Limited ( RIL).

Jamnagar is also a location of " Essar Oil", another important Indian refinery.
