Ján Babjak

Ján Babjak SJ ( born October 28, 1953 in hazin nad Cirochou, Czechoslovakia) is Archbishop of Prešov archeparchy and Metropolitan of the Greek Catholic Church in Slovakia.

Life

Ján Babjak studied theology and philosophy at the Seminary of St. Cyril and Methodius in Bratislava. In 1978 he was ordained priest by Bishop Joachim Segedi and worked in the pastoral care of the Eparchy of Prešov. In 1987, he joined the Congregation of the Society of Jesus. From 1991 to 1994 he studied spirituality at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome and received his doctorate there. Subsequently, he was rector of the spiritual center " Michael Lacko " in Kosice, and taught at the University of Trnava.

He was called by Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Prešov ( Presov ) appointed in 2002. He received his episcopal consecration John Paul II himself; Co-consecrators were the Curia Bishop and later Cardinal Leonardo Sandri and Archbishop Antonio Maria Vegliò, secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches.
