Jan Bang

January Bang ( born August 21, 1968 in Kristiansand ) is a Norwegian musician, DJ and record producer. Bangs specialize in programming and live sampling.

Life and work

In the late 1980s Bang played with Erik Honoré in the formation Woodlands, the 1988 album of the same name published. His solo debut came in 1989 with the album Frozen Feelings Morten Harket on the Sidsel Endresen and appeared as Gastvokalisten. This was followed by some work as a producer for Norwegian artists such as Bertine Zetlitz or Bel Canto before his second solo album Pop Killer, published in 1998. Again, he again worked with renowned guest musicians, among them Nils Petter Molvaer, Bugge Wesseltoft and Arild Andersen. On the album - which was nominated in 1999 in the category Dance for the Spellemannprisen - mixed Bang House, jazz and pop.

Two years later he joins again with Erik Honoré. The two published subsequently released two albums on the border between jazz, electronica and contemporary music. On Birth Wish ( 2000) Bang and Honoré work together with the jazz musicians Arve Henriksen and Christian Wallumrød. The 2001 issued Going Nine Ways From Wednesday is a collaboration with the poet and writer Nils Christian Moe Repstad and singer Anne Marie Almedal Velvet Belly. In addition, Bang wrote the music for the film bales i Oyet ( 2000).

In the following years bang was heard, among others, Dhafer Youssef. In 2004 he was awarded the Gammleng Award in the category "Studio". In 2005 he founded - together again with Erik Honoré - the point festival. The annually held in Kristiansand event is to be a platform for experimental music and give musicians from around the world the opportunity to share experiences. 2010 appeared another album under his own name, .... and poppies from Kandahar ( Samadhisound, 2010 ) on which Arve Henriksen, Nils Petter Molvaer, Bugge Wesseltoft, Eivind Aarset, Sidsel Endresen and Erik Honoré participated. With Henriksen, Honoré, Tigran Hamasyan and Robert Jürjendal he composed the soundtrack to the movie Victoria (2013 ) by director Torun Lian, which was orchestrated by Gaute Storaas.
