Jan Bauch

Jan Bauch ( born November 16, 1898 in Prague, † January 9, 1995 in Prague) was a Czech painter and sculptor.

Life

Jan Bauch first learned the craft of wood sculptor in the workshop of his father, and continued this artistic training in 1914 in the School of Applied Arts in Prague continued. In 1924 he completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague successfully.

His first works show the influence of cubist Georges Braque and had a brief period in the 1930s surrealist traits.

In 1939, when the Germans marched into Czechoslovakia and the mood of the art began apparently to focus on baroque traditions, especially the explosive temperament of Jan belly showed. Images from this period contain deformed shapes with black outlines and the intensive use of light and shade in combination with pastel bright colors red, green, yellow and blue.

His first international break he experienced with these works, together with his artist colleague Jan Lauda at the World Exhibition in New York in 1939.
