Jan Benda

January Benda ( born April 28, 1972 in Reet, Belgium ) is a German - Czech Hockey player standing since 2013 in Deggendorf Fire in the ice hockey league under contract. The 1.92 m wide Center is a former German national team and has played, among others, for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League.

Career

Benda began his career at the Junior Hockey Düsseldorf EC and in the Canadian Junior Football League OJHL before he joined the Ontario Hockey League in 1989 with the Oshawa Generals. After two seasons of the right shooter moved to the 2nd German Bundesliga Grefrather EC. After another stint in Oshawa Benda moved in the summer of 1992 in 1st German Bundesliga for the 1992/ 93 for EHC Freiburg and subsequently for the season 1993 /94 EC Hedos Munich, with whom he became German champion.

After a year in North America, where he played in the American Hockey League with the Binghamton Rangers and in the East Coast Hockey League with the Richmond Renegades, he moved back to Europe, where he played in the 1995/96 season short for ESC mosquitoes Food and then up to the season 1997/98 played in the Czech Republic in Prague. In 1997 he was engaged as a free agent by the Washington Capitals. For the capital city, however, Benda was only nine times in the NHL on the Ice (0 goals, 3 assists), most of the time the season he played for the Capitals farm team, the Portland Pirates in the AHL.

After his NHL involvement of the globetrotter moved to Finland. He is the son of the former ice hockey player and coach, until the December 2000 Essen Mosquitoes coached most recently in the 2000/ 01 season in the German Ice Hockey League.
