Jan Benzien

Jan Benzien (* 22 July 1982 in Gießen ) is a German canoeist.

Life

January Benzien began seven years Canoe Slalom to drive. Up to the age of 16 he attended the school in Giessen. In 1999, he transferred to a boarding school in Leipzig, as he wanted to promote his sports career. His High School closed in January 2002 successfully. Then graduated from Jan upto 2005 his three-year military service in the Sonthofener sports promotion group. At this time he missed qualifying for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. At the University of Cooperative Education in Riesa, he studied sports management, which supported him the Sports Federation of Saxony.

To prepare for the Olympic season joined Jan 2007 Benzien back into the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr. In spring 2008, he secured in four national qualifying race the only German Olympic starting place in the Canadian - One. At the Olympics he belonged in the heats to the best, but was eliminated in twelfth in the semifinals after he lost considerably after a risky maneuver in a water roller to ride and in the end he missed almost three seconds in the finals.

The year 2009 brought him the bronze medal at the European Championships of Nottingham and the World Championships in La Seu d' Urgell (Spain ) two individual medals at international championships. With also two podiums at the World Cups of Pau ( 1 ) and Augsburg ( 3 ) and third overall in the World Cup was the season one of the most successful of his career.

In the Canoe Slalom World Championships 2011, he was vice-champion with the team.

Since the year 2012, he starts next to the One - canoe (C1) with Franz Anton together in a double - canoe (C2). At the last World Cup 2012 in Prague they succeeded in doing the victory. The Canoe Slalom European Championships 2013 in Krakow, Poland, they could reach the 3rd place with the team.

Private

January Benzien is married to the former Slalomkanutin Mandy Planert since 6 March 2009. Their son, Justus Jonas was born in 2006. Mika, the second rung, 2009 was born.
