Jan de Haan

Jan de Haan (born 29 July 1951, Warns, Friesland Province ) is a contemporary Dutch composer and conductor.

Life and work

Jan de Haan was born in 1951 in the Frisian Warns (Netherlands). His first inspiration was his father, who was a great lover of band music. Conducting practiced at an early age a great fascination for Jan de Haan and so he was already seventeen years Conductor of different band.

From 1969 to 1973 he studied music education, trumpet and piano at the Pedagogical Academy in Leeuwarden. At the Utrecht Conservatory, he earned 1976 Henk van Lijnschooten his graduation diploma in the art of conducting. Until 1994, Jan de Haan conductor of various ensembles, including brass band Soli Brass. He also was a guest conductor of many other professional and amateur orchestras and ensembles. In this capacity he traveled almost all Western European countries, the United States, Iran and Japan. Famous orchestras such as the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, the Desford Colliery Brass Band, the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band, all four Dutch military band, the Frisian Orkest ( Friesian band), the Radio Blazers Ensemble ( Radio Wind Ensemble of the Netherlands ) and the National Youth - Fanfareorchester the Netherlands and many more were already under his direction.

From 1978 to 1989 Jan de Haan was also a conductor, composer and arranger in radio and television in the Netherlands. As Program Director, he produced, among others, 140 music TV shows during that time. In addition, he worked for several years as a lecturer in management at the Music Pedagogical Academy in Leeuwarden.

In addition to his activities as a guest conductor, composer and international jury member Jan de Haan worked at the music publisher De Haske. He founded the publishing house in 1983 and sold his shares 25 years later, in 2008, to devote himself entirely to composing, arranging and conducting full again can.

His brother Jacob de Haan is also a composer.
