Jan Derksen

January Derksen ( born January 23, 1919 in Geertruidenberg, † 22 May, 2011 Amsterdam ) was a Dutch cyclist.

January Derksen was shortly before and after the Second World War the elite sprinters. In 1939, he was an amateur world champion and 1946 and 1957 world champion in the pros. Twice, in 1950 and 1958, Derksen won the Sprint Classic Grand Prix de Paris. Legendary is his standing trial together with the Italian Antonio Maspes at the Milan Vigorelli train during the train - Cycling World Championships 1955, which lasted 32 minutes and 20 seconds and was eventually canceled by the referees.

Derksen was from 1940 to 1963 as a professional cyclist active; he drove his last race in August 1963 at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. He followed Arie van Vliet, acting as National Railway coach. He then worked as a manager and coach. He supervised, among other Tiemen Groen and Leijn Loevesijn. In honor of Derksen, who himself won 28 big prizes, is aligned within the framework of the Amsterdam Six Day race in the Grand Prix January Derksen for sprinters.
