Jan Filip (historian)

January Filip ( born December 25, 1900 in Chocnějovice, † April 30, 1981 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak prehistorians.

Life

Filip was a professor of prehistory at the University of Prague, Director of the Archaeological Institute and a member of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. He has authored numerous scientific journals, including two fundamental for archaeological research in Central Europe works. He was also the founder of the journal Archeologické rozhledy which has been published since 1949.

Filip shaped the later ones Czech generations of researchers. He has a role model through his not affected by national or political reasons statements. Much of his work is relevant today.
