Jan Furtok

January Furtok ( born March 9, 1962 in Katowice, Poland ) is a former Polish football player.

Career

The sporting career of Jan Furtok began in the youth team of Gornik MK Katowice. In 1977 he moved to local rivals GKS Katowice, where he became a regular player from 1982 to 1987 and with whom he three times in a row reached the final of the Polish Football Cup ( Puchar Polski ) of 1985. As he ( 1-3 against Widzew Łódź) and 1987 in Opole ( 3:4 against Slask Wroclaw / Breslau) twice unhappy with Katowice defeated in Warsaw in 1985 on penalties, he scored in 1986 in Chorzów ( Chorzów ) in a 4-1 win over Gornik Zabrze the biggest success of his football career.

In 1988 Furtok for Bundesliga side Hamburger SV ( HSV), for the five years he was active. With the HSV 1990 he reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup ( 0:2 and 2:1 against Juventus Turin). Also in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup failed Jan Furtok four years later with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he was active from 1993 to 1995, the SV Austria Salzburg. Without a title win in Germany Furtok finally returned in 1995 to his hometown club GKS Katowice back. For Poland, he played 36 international matches, where he met ten times.

After ending his playing career he took in his home club GKS Katowice the Office of the coach, in 2005, the club went with him as coach of the Ekstraklasa, Poland's top football league from. After a spell as a youth coach at the Polish Football Association ( PZPN ) he was elected president of GKS Katowice.
