Jan Harold Brunvand

Jan Harold Brunvand ( born March 23, 1933, Cadillac, Michigan) is an emeritus professor of English at the University of Utah in the United States, is known for its collection and publication of modern legends and modern folklore. Brunvands performance was that he, for the first time anwandte concepts that were developed in the study of traditional folk tales to stories that are circulating in the world today.

Brunvand is the author of several popular books on urban legends, starting in 1981 with The Vanishing Hitchhiker. He also wrote several textbooks and gave American Folklore: An Encyclopedia (1996 ) out. Together with Robert Loren Fleming wrote the graphic novel The Big Book of Urban Legends.

Brunvand received a Ph.D. in 1961 in folklore from Indiana University. He taught at several universities and remained from 1966 until his retirement in 1996 at the University of Utah.
