Jan IV of Nassau

John IV ( born August 1, 1410 in Dillenburg, † February 3, 1475 ibid ) was 1442-1475 Count of Nassau - Dillenburg.

Life

Johann was the son of Count Engelbert I of Nassau- Dillenburg and Joan of Polans of the Lek. When his father died in 1442, John inherited his property in the Netherlands and called himself Count of Nassau - Dillenburg, Vianden and Dietz. The German possessions fell to John's younger brother Henry II

When General John served under the dukes of Burgundy Philip the Good and Charles the Bold. In 1445 he accompanied the former in his attack on the County of Holland, in gratitude, he was appointed Seneschal of Burgundy. The Earl extended the Breda Castle to its towers, and founded a great library.

Progeny

Johann married in 1440 Mary, Countess of Loon Heinberg. With her he had the following children:

  • Anna (1441-1515), ∞ Duke Otto of Brunswick- Lüneburg
  • Johanna (1444-1488), ∞ Count Philipp of Waldeck
  • Adriana (1449-1477), ∞ Count Philip I of Hanau- coins mountain
  • Engelbert II (1451-1504), heir in Breda and Vianden
  • John V (1455-1516), heir in Dillenburg

Since Mary was the heiress of Millen, Gangelt, forest wetland ( Vucht ), guillemots and stone on the Meuse, passed through the marriage again (as already by the marriage of the father) important possession in the Lower Rhine in the hands of the Nassauer.
