Jan Jiří Heinsch

Johann Georg Heinsch (also: Johann Georg Hein sealed; Czech: Jan Jiří Heinsch; * probably in Glatz in 1647, † September 9, 1712 in Prague) was a German - Bohemian Baroque painter.

Life

Johann Georg Heinsch was the son of Glatzer royal clerk and aldermen Joachim Franz Heinsch. His birth year 1647 is not occupied. Also a lack of reliable data on his education. About his resume, there are very contradictory. By 1678 he was a resident of much creative artist, wealthy artist in Prague, where he had acquired the rights of citizenship. After the death of his first wife in 1702, he joined the monastery of the Barefooted Augustinians in Bela pod Bezdězem a he but left again before the end of the novitiate. His second wife, whom he married in 1704, was a citizen daughter.

His artistic role model to have been the famous Baroque painter Karl Skreta. Heinsch painted numerous altarpieces in the conventional style, mainly for Prague churches. Clients were mainly the monasteries of the Jesuits, the Cross and the Augustinians. Many of his works were in monastic churches, which were repealed during the Josephine reforms. Some of these paintings are considered to be lost, others are still preserved in museums, such as the National Gallery in Prague and in the City Galleries of Raudnitz and Velvary.
