Jan Kapr

January Kapr ( born March 12, 1914 in Prague, † April 29, 1988 ) was a Czech composer.

Life

Kapr studied at the Prague Conservatory with Jaroslav Řídký and Jaroslav Křička. From 1939 to 1946 he worked as a music editor at Radio Prague. From 1950 to 1952 he was editor in chief of the state music publishing house Orlik, 1961-1970 teacher of composition at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. He then worked as a freelance composer in Prague.

He composed an opera, a ballet, ten symphonies, a symphonic poem, an orchestral suite, two piano concertos and a violin concerto, several works chamber musician, piano sonatas, a cantata, choir music, songs and film scores.
