Jan Karel van Goltstein

January Karel Baron van Goltstein (* May 30, 1794 in Arnhem, † February 17, 1872 in The Hague) was a Dutch lawyer and non-party politician. From March 5, 1858 until February 23, 1860, he was Foreign Minister in the Cabinet Rochussen.

Van Goltstein came from a wealthy aristocratic family Jülich. 1794 fled the family to East Friesland, later returned and settled in Utrecht, where van Goltstein grew up. His father Evert Jan van Benjamin Goltstein was mayor of Wageningen, his mother's name was Frederica van der chapels. He had seven brothers and sisters. One of his brothers was Hendrik Willem van Goltstein Rudolph van Oldenaller, and he was the uncle of Willem van Goltstein van Oldenaller, both of which were also politicians.

Van Goltstein studied at the Utrecht University Law. In 1811 he settled just down there as a lawyer.

On September 28, 1828, he married the Baroness Adolphine Wern Pepperdine van Pallandt. The marriage remained childless.

1849-1850 and 1856-1858, he was Chairman of the Second Chamber, whose member he remained until his death. From 1858 to 1860 he was Secretary of State.

His predecessor in the post of foreign minister was Daniël van Théodore Gevers Endegeest; his successor Floris Adriaan van Hall.
