Jan Kobow

January Kobow (* 1966 in Berlin ) is a German singer in Vocal Tenor.

Life

January Kobow grew up in Berlin and attended the Walther Rathenau- school, which he left in 1987 with the Abitur. He received his first musical training as a boy soloist with the State and Cathedral Choir Berlin under Christian Grube.

He studied organ at the Schola Cantorum in Paris and completed his studies in 1994 the church music at the Musikhochschule in Hannover from. It was followed by a 1999 completed vocal studies at the Musikhochschule Hamburg Sabine Kirchner.

January Kobow worldwide success as an oratorio and lieder singer. He has performed with distinguished conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Philippe Herreweghe and was involved in the recording of the complete cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach (Bach Cantata Pilgrimage ) under the direction of Sir John Eliot Gardiner.

January Kobow often occurs as a recitalist, especially with German art songs of romance on. He gives frequent recitals, including 2005 in the USA and Canada, together with pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout.

As an opera singer in January 2003 Kobow guested at the Boston Early Music Festival. In the summer of 2004 he made ​​his debut at the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels as Telemaco in the Monteverdi opera Il ritorno d' Ulisse in patria. Since the 1990s, Jan Kobow appears regularly with the Ensemble Himlische Cantorey whose founding member he is. This ensemble maintains, among other things, the music of Claudio Monteverdi and John Dowland.
