Jan Kohout

Jan Kohout ( born March 29, 1961 in Plzeň ) is a Czech diplomat and politician. He was twice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

Life

Kohout studied at the Charles University and completed his studies in philosophy in 1984. He was from 1986 to 1989 member of the Communist Party. He is now a member of the Social Democratic Party ( CSSD ). From 2002 to 2004 Kohout served as First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. 2004 to 2008 he was in Brussels Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the EU, and then again took over the post of First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg. From 8 May 2009 to July 13, 2010 Kohout was a non-party foreign minister in the government of Jan Fischer took over and in this capacity from May 9 to 30 June 2009 and the Presidency in the Council for General Affairs. From July 10 2013 to January 29, 2014 he was again foreign minister in the government Jiří Rusnok.

Kohout was in 2005 briefly as a successor to the retiring Prime Minister Stanislav Gross in conversation. Ultimately, however, attracted the Social Democrats for this office Jiří Paroubek ago.

Kohout is divorced, has a son and a daughter.
