Jan Lehane

January Lehane O'Neill ( born July 9, 1941 in Piney Range in Grenfell, New South Wales when Jan Lehane ) is a former Australian tennis player who was active primarily in the 1960s.

Career

Lehane won already as a junior in 1953 numerous titles, including the championships of New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia. In 1958 and 1959 she won the junior title at the Australian Championships. She was one of the first players who played with two-handed backhand.

1959 and 1960 won the tournament Lehane of Sydney. From 1960 to 1963 she moved at the Australian Championships through to the finals, but was beaten each time Margaret Smith Court. In mixed they won there in 1960 with Trevor Fancutt and 1961 on the side of Bob Hewitt the title. Even with the other Grand Slam tournaments, she joined 1960-1964 to regularly and reached in individual repeatedly the quarterfinals. In 1963 she was appointed to the Australian Fed Cup team and won all three games.

After Lehane had withdrawn largely from the tournament circuit in 1965 and 1966, she appeared again in 1967 in Melbourne, Paris and Wimbledon. At Wimbledon, she came here before to the last sixteen. Then she took only sporadically participated in the Australian Open, last in 1977.
