Jan Maas (cyclist)

Leonardus Johannes "Jan" Maas ( born June 17, 1900 in Steenbergen, † September 5, 1977 ) was a Dutch cyclist.

Twice January Maas took part in the Olympic Games. 1924 in Antwerp, he raced in three disciplines. In the team pursuit on the track, together with Gerard Bosch van Drakenstein, Simon of Poelgeest and Frans Waterreus, the team of the Netherlands was eliminated in the first round. In the 50 -kilometer race ( Scratch) he was seventh and was instrumental in the victory of his team-mates Ko Willems. At the direction of the team leader with Bosch van Drakenstein he attacked constantly during the race to exhaust the other driver; the plan succeeded: Willems won the gold medal. In the road race, he finished 19th place. For the team classification, the results of the four best riders in the Netherlands were tallied, and the team finished sixth.

At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 Maas won jointly with Bosch van Drakenstein, Janus Braspennincx Jan Pijnenburg and Piet van der Horst, the silver medal in the team pursuit on the track.

Three times drove Maas also at UCI Road World Championships: In 1922, he was ninth, 1923, he was ranked 21 in 1924 and 20th place
