Jan Maklakiewicz

Jan Adam Maklakiewicz (* November 24, 1899 in Chojnata; † February 7, 1954 in Warsaw) was a Polish composer.

After his first lessons from his father studied Maklakiewicz in Warsaw first at the Academy of Music in Warsaw Felicjan Szopski and Leopold Binental and 1922-1925 composition with Roman Statkowski. Until 1927 he continued his studies in composition with Paul Dukas at the École Normale de Musique in Paris.

He was from 1927 at the Conservatory of Łódź, 1929 at the Conservatory of Warsaw teacher of music theory. In 1932 he became organist at the Holy Cross Church in Warsaw. From 1945 to 1947 he was director of the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Krakow, from 1947, the State Philharmonic of Warsaw, where he also taught composition at the Music Academy.
