Jan Merrill

January Merrill (actually: Janice Melbourne Merrillville, after marriage Merrill -Morin, born June 18, 1956 in New London, Connecticut) is a former American middle and long distance runner.

In 1975, she won at the Pan American Games in Mexico City about 1500 m gold, and in 1976 it was over the same distance at the Olympic Games in Montreal eighth.

In 1977 she presented on July 6 in Ingelheim 15:37,0 min with a world record over 5000 m. At the World Cross Country Championships in Glasgow in 1978 and 1979 in Limerick, she was seventh respectively in the individual competition and won the team silver or gold. In 1979, she won gold at the premiere of the 3000 -meter run at the Pan American Games in San Juan.

She ran three more times at the Cross Country World Cup in the medals: 1980 in Paris, she was fifth in the individual standings and won the team bronze, 1981 in Madrid, she took both in single as well as in the team standings silver, and 1983 in Gateshead she wore with a 13th place at the title of the U.S. crew.

National title she won twice over 1500 meters (1978, 1981), four times higher than 3000 m ( 1976-1978, 1984), twice in cross country (1976, 1977) and once in the 15 - km road race (1984). In the hall they ever twice U.S. champion in the 1500 m (1976, 1981) and 3000 m (1976, 1983). As a starter for the USC Mainz was German champion in 1977 over 1500 m.

January Merrill was coached by former marathon runner Norm Higgins. She is currently assistant coach of the track and field team at Rutgers University.
