Jan Meyers

January Meyers ( born July 20, 1928 in Lincoln, Nebraska) is a former American politician. Between 1985 and 1997, she represented the third electoral district of the state of Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

January Meyers attended the public schools in Superior ( Nebraska) and William Woods College in Fulton (Missouri ). She then studied until 1951 at the University of Kansas. Between 1951 and 1954 she worked in advertising and public relations department at a radio station in Omaha and then at a warehouse in Lincoln.

Politically, Meyers joined the Republican Party. Between 1967 and 1972 she worked for the Municipality of Overland Park, Kansas. From 1970 to 1972 she was councilor there also, and 1972-1984 she was a member of the Senate of Kansas. In 1984 she was in the third district of the state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where they became the successor of Larry Winn on January 3, 1985. After five elections she was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1997 six legislative periods. From 1995 to 1997 she was chairman of the Committee on Small Business.

In 1996, it waived another candidacy. After her retirement from Congress he has pursued no further political office more. Her son Phil Meyers competed unsuccessfully in 2000 a congress seat for the state of Hawaii.
