Ján Móry

Johann Mory (actually: Jan Janos Mory; * July 10, 1892 in Banská Bystrica ' Neusohl '; † May 5, 1978 in Bratislava) was a composer in Slovakia.

Life and career

Mory came from a merchant family in Banská Bystrica. His musical talent surfaced early. He learned several string instruments and playing the piano. He studied in Budapest at the Business Academy, his knowledge of music theory and composition, he deepened in Hamburg and Berlin. In 1921 Mory owner was on the New sealed Pleso ( Nové Strbské Pleso ) at the site of the High Tatras and built the hotel complex from a popular holiday resort and cultural center. Together with his wife, the concert pianist and opera singer Magda Szakmáry and music lovers (including E. Suchon, B. Bartok, E.d ' Albert, O. Novy, H. Büchel ), he often held their own music salons and concerts over the transmitter " Monte Mory " was ( Kosice ) broadcast live on the radio Journal Košice.

Mory was a native of connected Europeans. His songs and operettas he wrote primarily in German and Hungarian, and later in Slovak and Czech. Inspired by the mountains arose symphonic poems, works for dance and wind orchestra, piano and violin pieces and church music and over 200 songs on texts known poets like Rilke, Dehmel, Goethe, Tagore, Reiner and Zipser local poet. The greatest success, however, obtained his twelve musical comedies and operettas. Many of these works for the stage were at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava ( Bratislava), in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Opava and performed with great success in Hamburg and Berlin. The most famous arias from the operetta " La Valliere ," which was listed in 1933 in the Berlin Schiller Theater with 85 repeats, came in the interpretation of famous singers such as Joseph Schmidt and Louis engravers out as recordings. Because of the catchy melodies and beautiful and rich colored Instrumentation Johann Mory was also called " Schubert Tatras ".

After the expropriation in 1945, he taught at the music school in Zipser Neudorf ( Spisská Nová Ves ), where a number of educational and instructive compositions were created. The estate of the composer is in the Museum of Literature and Music in Banská Bystrica and at the Museum Karl castle in Karlsruhe- Durlach.
