Jan Mosdorf

January Mosdorf ( born May 17, 1904 in Warsaw, † October 11, 1943 in Auschwitz ) also known as Andrzej Witowski was a Polish journalist, politician, philosopher, activist of the Oboz Wielkiej Polski, leader of the Student League All Polish Youth and the National Radical Camp, prisoner of Auschwitz -Birkenau.

Life

Mosdorf completed his studies in philosophy from 1928 and 1934, defended at the philosopher Władysław Tatarkiewicz his doctoral thesis on Auguste Comte.

Mosdorf was head of the Nationalist Student Association All-Polish Youth ( Związek Akademicki Młodzież Wszechpolska ). In the 1930s Mosdorf worked both as a co-editor of the newspaper Sztafeta (season ) of the National Radical Camp ONR and the ONR Member Stanisław Piasecki, the brother of Boleslaw and later editor of the Catholic magazine Prosto z mostu.

Mosdorf was the leader and ideologue of the National Radical Camp (Polish: Obóz Narodowo - Radykalny, ONR ), a nationalist movement that was banned because of their participation in the boycott of Jewish businesses and numerous violent riots against protesting workers in July 1934, and from then on in the underground acted. In Mosdorfs idea of ​​an " original Poland " to other peoples and religions are assimilated. Mosdorf succeeded in a wave of arrests against the ONR and escape.

In his essay " The splendor of the Catholic Renaissance " (1936 ) called Mosdorf the return of the youth to Catholicism, in his book " wczoraj i Jutro " (1938 ) turned against pacifism.

In June 1940 Mosdorf was arrested by the Gestapo and imprisoned in the first Pawiak prison and then deported to Auschwitz. There he organized together with the Bolesław Świderski and Jerzy Ptakowski a resistance cell that politically the National Party ( Stronnictwo Narodowe ) was assigned.

Mosdorf was shot on October 11, 1943 along with a group of 53 other prisoners because of resistance activities against the SS.
