January Poortvliet ( born September 21, 1955 in Arnemuiden ) is a Dutch former football player, who works as a trainer since 1996.

Career

Poortvliet began his career in 1974 with PSV Eindhoven. In nine years Eindhoven Poortvliet won three Dutch league titles, a Dutch Cup once and the UEFA Cup. In 1983 he moved to Roda JC Kerkrade, then it went to France to Nîmes Olympique. After three years in France, he went to Belgium and signed a contract with Royal Antwerp. From there, he moved back to the Grande Nation. Poortvliet moved to AS Cannes for a year. Then the defender made ​​his career at Eendracht Aalst in Belgium and the Dutch club VCV Zeeland finish.

International Poortvliet played for his native Netherlands. He participated in the Soccer World Cup 1978 in part in Argentina and was with the team runner-up. Poortvliet was used six times and got a yellow card. Two years later he took part in the European Football Championship in Italy in 1980 and retired with the Orange as a group of third parties in the first round.

Coaching career

Poortvliet coached from 1996 to 1997 the RBC Roosendaal. After that, he had not long coaching job. From 2000 to 2001 he was coach of FC Den Bosch. After that, he coached three years Stormvogels Telstar. In the 2007 /08 season he was coach of Helmond Sport and joined the 2008/09 season to England to Southampton FC. In summer 2012, Poortvliet moved to FC Den Bosch, where he worked eleven years earlier.
