Ján Popluhár

Ján " Bimbo " Popluhár ( born September 12, 1935 in Ceklis; † 6 March 2011 Bernolákovo, Slovakia ) was a Czechoslovak football player Slovak origin. He was regarded in the 1960s as one of the world's best defender.

Ján Popluhár played in his youth for Dynamo Bernolákovo. 1954 changed the defender to Slovan Bratislava where he, apart from two years military service at RH Brno, spent 15 successful years. Slovan coach Leopold Šťastný missed Popluhár the nickname " Bimbo " because he was on the pitch so good-natured in his view, like an elephant in the circus. 1962 and 1963 won the well-known as a reliable and strong in the air Popluhár with Slovan the Czechoslovak Cup.
