Jan Styka

January Styka ( born April 8, 1858 in Lviv, † April 11, 1925 in Rome) was a Polish painter.

Life

His father was an officer in the armed forces of Austria - Hungary. Styka studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, then in Rome, Paris and Krakow. Among his most famous works, the 1893 to 1894 together with Wojciech Kossak and other painters counts -created panoramic Raclawicka. At the end of the 19th century Styka created under the patronage of the American businessman Hubert Eaton, the panoramic image The Crucifixion ( The Crucifixion ). It is now exhibited in Glendale, California.

In 1900 Styka moved to Paris in 1910 to Italy. In 1910, he created an image of Ignacy Jan Paderewski, which is now on display at the National Museum of Poznań.

His sons Tadeusz Styka (1889-1954) and Adam Styka (1890-1959) was also a painter.
