Jan Tříska

January Tříska (* November 4, 1936 in Prague, Czechoslovakia ) is an American- Czech actor.

Biography

January Tříska studied from 1956 to 1959 acting at the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He then became the youngest member of the Prague theater Divadlo Národní and played a small role in the staged by Otakar Vavra Drama alarm in the shaft. During his studies, he worked sporadically as an extra in the film and assistant at the theater. Later he teamed up with Otomar Krejča, Karel Kraus, Josef Topol and Marie Tomášová he founded the theater Divadlo za branou. Until the signing of the Charter 77 Tříska was regularly employed as an actor in theater and film. Then he had to leave the country and wandered over Cyprus to the United States.

From 1981, he played regularly with the American film. Thanks to the acquaintance Miloš Forman he played among others in the film Ragtime published in 1981 and later as a killer in the biopic Larry Flynt - The Ugly Truth with. Even in Hollywood, he was able to establish himself as an actor. It was not until the late 1980s, he returned to the Czech Republic. Although henceforth he starred in both the Czech and the U.S. film, he continues to live with his wife, actress Karla Chadimová, with whom he has two children together, in Los Angeles.

He has been nominated three times for the Czech film prize Český lev. For his performances in RAD (1994) and Horem pádem (2004) he was nominated as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in and Sileni (2005) for Best Actor.
