January Vertonghen
January Vertonghen ( born April 24, 1987 in Sint -Niklaas ) is a Belgian footballer. Currently, he is the English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur under contract and is active in the Belgian national team.
Career
In the club
He began his career at the Flemish Club VK Tielrode. In 2003 he was accepted into the youth team of Germinal Beerschot. Later he played for the second team of Ajax Amsterdam. For the season 2006/ 07 he was accepted into the A- team of Ajax Amsterdam. On 3 December 2006 in a 6-0 win against Willem II Tilburg, Vertonghen gave his debut in the Eredivisie. In order to give him more playing time, decided the Ajax officers during a winter break to give the then youngster. Finally, the RKC Waalwijk secured the services of the defensive player for the rest of the season. When unterklassigen club came Vertonghen to regular operations and prevailed. Since his return to Amsterdam, the young players team regular first-team and made the breakthrough. He won the national cup in 2010 and was followed by two consecutive time the Dutch championship win. For the season, he moved for about 12.5 million euros for the Premier league club Tottenham Hotspur in England.
In the National Team
On June 2, 2007, he came to his debut in the senior national team in the 1-2 defeat against Portugal. With the U-23 team Vertonghen participated at the Olympic Games in 2008 and denied six inserts for the colors of his country. In the years after he failed, however, with the national team in both the 2010 World Cup qualifiers as well as in qualifying for the European Championship in 2012.
