January Vertonghen ( born April 24, 1987 in Sint -Niklaas ) is a Belgian footballer. Currently, he is the English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur under contract and is active in the Belgian national team.

Career

In the club

He began his career at the Flemish Club VK Tielrode. In 2003 he was accepted into the youth team of Germinal Beerschot. Later he played for the second team of Ajax Amsterdam. For the season 2006/ 07 he was accepted into the A- team of Ajax Amsterdam. On 3 December 2006 in a 6-0 win against Willem II Tilburg, Vertonghen gave his debut in the Eredivisie.
