Jan Victors
Jan Victors ( born June 13, 1619 Amsterdam, † December 1679 in the Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia ) was a Dutch painter and draftsman, who dealt primarily with historical and portrait painting.
Life
His work fell into the era of the so-called Golden Age, when the newly founded Republic of the Seven United Netherlands experienced a political, economic and artistic heyday. It is generally assumed that Jan Victors was a pupil of Rembrandt in the second half of 1630. However, no reliable evidence from the 17th century have survived, demonstrating a stay in Rembrandt's workshop.
As a result of Rampjaars, civil year 1672 to Jan Victors committed in 1676 by the Dutch East India Company as " sick comforter " in the colonies in Indonesia. He died shortly after arrival in December of the same year.
