Jan Wijnants

Jan Wijnants (* around 1632 probably in Haarlem, † January 23, 1684 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch painter.

Life

Neither the exact date of birth nor the birthplace of Jan Wijnants are occupied. He probably came around 1632, the son of art dealer January Wijants in Haarlem to the world. 1660 he moved to Amsterdam, where he also operated a restaurant next to the painting and died in 1684.

His early works of the 1650s were influenced by the painter Dirck Wijntrack. During this time, there are often farmhouses as a motif in his paintings. Appear in his later works building in the background and dunes are the main focus of his landscape paintings. His students included Adriaen van de Velde. His landscape painting influenced 18th century painters such as François Boucher and Thomas Gainsborough.
