Jan Zdeněk Bartoš

January Zdenek Bartos ( born June 4, 1908 in Dvůr Králové; † 1 June 1981) was a Bohemian composer.

Bartos learned to play the violin in Hradec Králové. With a small music ensemble he hired the French cruise company Message Maritimes in Marseille and traveled the entire Mediterranean, the Far East and other parts of the world. After his return to Prague he studied art at the music Otakar Sin and Jaroslav Křička.

Since 1956 he worked at the Czech Ministry of Education and teaching as head of an ensemble and taught at the Prague Conservatory composition and music theory.

He composed two operas ( The Haunted Castle, in 1951 and storming the sky, 1955) and an operetta, four symphonies, chamber music, several cantatas, song cycles and incidental music.
