Jana Tichá

Jana Ticha (born 1965 ) is a Czech astronomer.

Ticha studied at the University of Economics in Prague, where she graduated in 1987. Since 1992 she has held the position of Director of Kleť Observatory. Jana Ticha specializes in the discovery and observation of asteroids and comets with emphasis on Near-Earth Objects ( NEOs ) and is scientific director of the corresponding observation program, including the klenot project ( klenot = Kleť Observatory Near Earth and other unusual objects Observations Team). Under her leadership, the observatory underwent a thorough modernization of the astrometric observations of these objects by introducing a CCD camera and modern computer technology. She works at the observatory together with her husband Miloš Tichý.

Jana Ticha was and is a member of many international committees and commissions of the area astronomy. For example, it leads since 2003 the chair of the Committee on Small Body Nomenclature ( CSBN ) of the International Astronomical Union ( IAU), which is responsible for examining proposals of names and naming of asteroids.

By July 2007, they discovered more than 50 asteroids, many of them with her husband. Your self is dedicated to the asteroid ( 5757 ) Ticha. Further ( 8307 ) Peltan was named after her family the asteroid. In the Czech Republic, the astronomer is also very well known due to their popular science activities. It is one of the main authors of the Czech Internet service to the topic asteroids and comets.
