Jane Alexander

Jane Alexander ( born October 28, 1939 in Boston, Massachusetts; actually Jane Quigley ) is an American actress.

Life

Jane Alexander began after her acting training in 1966 with her ​​theater work in Washington, DC In 1969 she was in the boxing drama The Great White Hope her Broadway debut, for which she won a Tony Award. She played the role of Eleanor Backman also a year later at the opposite James Earl Jones in the film adaptation of Martin Ritt, for which she received her first Oscar nomination. Later in her career, she was nominated three more times for an Academy Award and received six additional Tony Award nominations.

She was appointed by U.S. President Bill Clinton to the Director of the National Endowment for the Arts in 1993, which it remained until 1997.
