Jane Bernigau

Jane Bernigau ( born October 5, 1908 in Sagan, † unknown) was from 1938 to 1945 a German Oberaufseherin in several concentration camps. It belonged to the so-called SS retinue.

Bernigau was a professional care educator. At the age of 31 years, she applied as a guard in a concentration camp. Bernigau made ​​in 1938 by their service in the Lichtenburg concentration camp on. In 1940, she was temporarily reassigned to the training camp of Mauthausen. Later, their dislocation followed Ravensbrück concentration camp. There they formed women as overseers. From 1944 Bernigau was used in a concentration camp Gross-Rosen, where she was responsible as Oberaufseherin for the management of the local women -camp and where it was awarded a Military Cross. In September 1944 she moved to the Mauthausen concentration camp and was also employed at central warehouse St. Lambrecht, where they abused prisoners. At the approach of the Allied forces, she fled from the camp. She was never arrested or held accountable for their actions. Bernigau but was interrogated several times after the war, as in 1969 and 1976.
