Janell Burse

Janell Burse ( born May 19, 1979 in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States) is a professional basketball player. Since 2004 she plays for the Seattle Storm in the Women's National Basketball Association.

Career

Burse studied from 1997 to 2001 at Tulane University. During this time she also played for the women's basketball team at the University, the Tulane Green Wave. In 2001, she was then selected at WNBA Draft at the point total of 28 of the Minnesota Lynx. Burse played three seasons for the Lynx, until it was transferred together with Sheri Sam to the Seattle Storm for Amanda Lassiter and a first-round pick (6th pick ) in the WNBA Draft 2004. During the 2004 season, she won the Storm their first WNBA Championship, though she was in her first season in Seattle mostly as a substitute player by Kamila Vodichkova in use. Since Vodichkova after this season left the franchise, the Storm to occupy the vacated starting position with Burse decided. Subsequently, the Storm Burses extended contract for another two years. In the 2005 season it was the first time an entire season in the starting lineup of a WNBA team. The trust placed in them, she confirmed with a good performance. Burse finished the season with an average of 10 points in a game time of 25.3 minutes per game. With this performance, she was one of the best centers in the league. In the following season, she was always in the starting lineup of the Storm when they played. Due to its good performance ( points average: 11.1; rebounds section 6.6 - both personal bests ) the Storm extended their contract for another year. In the 2007 season she began to like the previous always from the beginning, but she withdrew at the end of the regular season an injury to the ligaments in the left wrist. Therefore, they had to stop for the remainder of the season. In the 2008 season, they should be integral part of the franchise, so the Storm extended their contract one more time. In May, however, she decided to suspend the entire season in order to thoroughly recover from the strains of recent years. After this break Burse returned to the WNBA and signed again a contract with the Seattle Storm.
