Rhythm Nation 1814 is the fourth studio album by Janet Jackson, released in September 1989 by A & M Records.

History

Janet Jackson decided to make a concept album about social injustice. She worked there together, among others, with the songwriting team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and wrote six of the tracks on the album itself with. Janet Jackson produced the album himself, with label boss John McClain " Executive Producer" was.

The album moves between Contemporary R & B and pop, with influences from hip hop are present in singing. The Ballad Livin ' in a World ( They Did not Make) describes the fate of children who are exposed to violence.

Eight singles were released, including Miss You Much, Rhythm Nation, Escapade, Alright, Come Back to Me, Black Cat, Love Will Never Do ( Without You ) and State of the World.

Criticism

The website Allmusic wrote that Jackson's voice was rather thin, but "Soul and Spirit" has. The concept of the album was successful.
